Bridging Bel Canto and Billboard:
Integrating Classical Craft and Popular Music Practice
In this academically grounded, industry-infused session, MzLyndia reveals the pedagogical divide between classical training and the contemporary music industry. Drawing on 25 years in major label studios, world tour rehearsals, and artist development rooms, she demonstrates how popular voice pedagogy requires distinct physiological, stylistic, cultural, and technological fluencies that extend beyond traditional Bel Canto frameworks.
Through live coaching of classical and contemporary volunteers, participants will experience how studio-ready vocals emerge from microphone artistry, session workflow, stylistic authenticity, and identity-driven artistic choices. Featuring music from emerging artists and insights from Grammy Award-winning collaborators, MzLyndia also explores the expanded role of the modern voice expert — part pedagogue, part producer, part creative strategist.
Why This Matters
The Conversation the Industry Has Been Waiting For
For decades, voice education has been anchored in a classical tradition built for the concert hall and the opera stage. But the overwhelming majority of working singers today perform in studios, on tours, and across streaming platforms that demand an entirely different set of skills — microphone technique, stylistic code-switching, vocal identity, and the stamina for session work that can run 8 hours straight.
MzLyndia has spent her entire career at the intersection of these two worlds. As a conservatory-trained opera singer who went on to coach Grammy-winning recording artists and develop vocal curriculum for Grammy Camp, she is uniquely positioned to bridge that divide — not just in theory, but in practice, live, on stage, in front of the nation's most respected voice educators.
"This session invites educators to reconsider long-held assumptions and embrace the evolving realities of the artists they serve — offering a rigorous and forward-thinking model for contemporary voice training."
— NATS San Antonio 2026 Plenary ProgramThis is not a seminar for beginners. This is a Plenary Session at the 59th National Conference of the largest and most respected voice-teaching organization in the world. MzLyndia's selection signals what the field already knows: the future of voice education runs through Sterling Voice Coaching.

A Career That Has Always Been Ahead of the Conversation
MzLyndia did not arrive at this podium by accident. Decades of real-world work — coaching artists signed to major labels, leading masterclasses across the US, Europe, China, and Korea, contributing to the Oxford Dictionary of Contemporary Music, sitting on the Board of Governors for the Recording Academy, developing Grammy Camp's vocal curriculum in 2004, and now serving as Chair of the Popular Music Program at USC Thornton School of Music — all of it has been building to this moment.
When MzLyndia takes the SALON I stage on July 6, she will not simply be giving a talk. She will be offering the field a map — a rigorous, identity-centered, industry-tested model for training voices that can survive and thrive in the music industry as it actually exists today, not as it existed when most pedagogy textbooks were written.
That is what Sterling Voice Coaching has always stood for: vocal truth, technical precision, and development that lasts a career.
